Experience is the best teacher! I learned it the hard way when my negative words turned against me and negatively impacted others.
I grew up knowing that correcting or teaching the child, the elderly would insult, yell or bring fear to the child. It was through those insults that the child was expected to bring themselves up from such a demeaning situation and try to prove the negative words wrong (negative reinforcement). I used the same recipe in bringing up my children, but this recipe did not go well. This was what I only learned from my parents when they brought us up as children.
My children have become stuck with the negative spoken words I said to them when they were young. I have repented several times, yes, they have forgiven me but did not forget. Some of my curses turned to be fulfilled. I wish I could turn back the hands of time but its too late.
Lesson learned:-
Proverbs 15:4 “Gentle words bring life and health; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.” “ The life and death are in the power of the tongue, Proverbs 18:21.” I encourage every follower of Jesus Christ to chose life over death and bless their children, friends and everyone who comes your way with gentle words full of love. We are who we are because of the words said over us.
- Words can uplift/inspire and build confidence or demean/ destroy the self-esteem/confidence and potential
- The Bible is full of verses about the power of the spoken words and the tamed or untamed tongue. With the prompting of the Holy Spirit in revealing the scriptures to us, we can be a better people.
Bless you dear Holly for exposing your heart and sharing what God taught you through the valley. I hope many come and read this and learn from you. This is what we are called to do.
